- ANDREW SAMUEL MSC MRICS
Director, RICS Chartered Surveyor
Samuel & Son is headed by Andrew Samuel, a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors with over 30 years’ experience in property and rural estate management across the South East.
Having graduated from Newcastle University and Cirencester, Andrew moved to East Sussex in 1996, working for Strutt & Parker in Lewes and then Charles Clarke & Co., before founding Samuel & Son in 2005. He prides himself in offering a personable but professional service and particularly enjoys helping clients solve problems and achieve their objectives. Of late Andrew’s particular forte has become strategic advice to a wide range of clients and he particularly enjoys working with fellow professionals in delivering succession and inheritance plans.
Andrew has also been involved in Renewable Energy, being a Director of Green Renewable Solutions (GRS) and Chair of the Southern Renewable Energy Forum (SREF), whilst also being a former Chair of Sussex Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), a South of England Agricultural Society (SEAS) Cabinet Member and Chair of Heathfield Park Cricket Club.
In his spare time Andrew still coaches rugby and cricket, enjoys a raft of country pursuits and can often be found motoring between engagements in his Truimph Vitesse!
- RICHARD MANN
People, Property & Professional Facilitator
Richard has worked in the rural property sector since graduating from Newcastle University some 20 years ago, spending ten years working for a national farm agency, handling some of the most significant farm sales across the southeast. He has lived in East Sussex his whole life, considering it to be one of the most beautiful and convenient parts of the country. With an excellent knowledge of the area and having been brought up in the countryside and around farming, Richard joined Samuel & Son, working across all departments to assist clients, new and old, to achieve their business objectives.
Outside of work Richard enjoys all things to do with the countryside and livestock. He is particularly keen on country sports having been shoot captain and gamekeeper on a small shoot near Lewes for eight seasons. He is a committee member on the Sussex branch of the GWCT. Richard used to enjoy playing rugby however his playing days are well behind him and he now prefers to watch from the comfort of a log fire and a comfy armchair although he still turns out to play village cricket as an agricultural batsmen.
- THOMAS SAMUEL
Trainee Rural Surveyor
Thomas Samuel is a Trainee Rural Surveyor & Valuer (Chartered Pathway), currently studying Rural Land and Business Management at Plumpton College. Having joined the family business at the start of 2025, Thomas works closely alongside his father Andrew, assisting with professional works as well as supporting the estate agency and lettings teams. Growing up in Sussex and being deeply connected to the countryside from an early age, Thomas has a strong passion for supporting landowners, farmers, and rural businesses.
Outside of the office, Thomas is rarely sitting still. He plays cricket for his local club through the summer, plays padel year-round, and trains for Hyrox fitness competitions. He is also a member of Sussex Young Farmers Club, keeping him close to the county's farming community, and hosts and partakes in several Property Network events, bringing together property professionals from across the area to share knowledge and build relationships. Whether on the pitch, in the gym, or in the room, the common thread is the same; Thomas enjoys being part of a team and getting to know the people around him.
- VICKI BEENEY
PA to Andrew Samuel & Valuation Clerk
Vicki Beeney joined Samuel & Son in 2016. She is PA to Andrew Samuel, an integral part of the team assisting Andrew in all aspects of his professional work and managing the office. With strong administration skills having worked for several large corporations such as Axa Insurance, Porsche and the Tussauds Group, the farming and surveying world was a whole new field to learn, and with 10 years in the business, she knows it inside out.
Life for Vicki outside of the office mainly revolves around her family, assisting her husband with the admin of managing a local grassroots football team as well as his business and cat-sitting around work hours. She enjoys (or should that read “endures”) time out by putting herself through boot camp twice a week and is slightly obsessed with good coffee and cake…..hence needing to attend boot camp (her words not ours!).
- ALASDAIR GIBSON
Property Sales Consultant
Alasdair specialises in country house sales and works with the estate agency and lettings team in our Horam office. With 30+ years of estate agency experience, Alasdair began his career in central London with Winkworth before opening his own independent agencies in London and Tunbridge Wells. He is an experienced negotiator with a strong focus on customer service and outstanding local knowledge.
- MARY MIDGLEY
Lettings & Compliance Manager
Mary grew up on a mixed beef and arable farm and now lives on a smallholding with her husband and dogs. After obtaining her law degree, she specialised in insolvency before taking a short break to bring up the family and look after the farm livestock.
Mary transitioned into lettings after that and ran a large portfolio of properties, both residential and commercial, in the Hastings area before joining Samuel & Son in 2024.
Mary has gained a vast amount of knowledge in property lettings and management over the years, enabling her to offer advice on all aspects of residential lettings for a variety of properties.
Outside of work she spends her time working her dogs, gardening and is the vice chair of trustees for the Sara Lee Trust a local charity providing therapies and counseling to those with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in the Hastings and Rother area.
