With many farmers as yet to receive Single Farm Payment monies, and quantitive statements relating to such, many have chosen to continue on as before. Coupled with a delay in implementing the fallen livestock scheme and compulsory TB testing, as well as cereal prices seemingly strengthening due to a particularly harsh winter across the eastern plains, the number of livestock retained and arable cropping this season seems to have remained constant. This has had the knock on effect of maintaining relatively high rental levels which, depending on the availability of Single Farm Payment monies/ELS Grant Aid, continue to range from £10 to £50 per acre on ploughable ground and from £0 to £30 per acre on grassland.
